Palm Trees in southern Florida

Rockport

We arrived at a new place with nothing in mind but not being cold this winter, some new country to see and I'd like to see the sun rise from the water....

We went the 60 miles to Padre Island for the sun rise
There are a LOT of RV parks in the Rockport area. We are across the bridge from the Rockport/Fulton area, it's quiet.

I'm not sure what I was looking for but I did find friendly people and quiet.

I found warm weather, warm water, a bit of humidity, grits on the menu, the cheapest gas I've seen in a long time, boats and more boats, oyster po' boy signs, flat, trees, a CG helo, a CG Falcon jet, off shore oil rigs, jelly fish, two used book stores, Portagee man o' war, birds, bait, fish & fees.

Other things too...

Rockport beach from the pier
A smoker, they have smaller ones & regular grills too

Oil rigs

A giant crab sculpture

I've started buying drinking water from a machine again and ice from the 7-11.  Just to be different I had the heater on this morning and wore a sweatshirt when I went outside.

I think it's going to be a good winter.... I do have a question, which is the "best' Mexican restaurant in the 'area'?

    1. I saw that boat name & had to take a picture. I read Barney's blog so I'd heard of 'too much' fun but had never seen it until now! !

There was a weekend many years ago in New Orleans when I thought I might have had too much fun....

  4. Your life style reminds me of Mr. Toad and the Canary Yellow Cart from Wind in the Willows. Toad had it pretty good.

    1. We're near the water which for me makes this better than many spots. Heck the water is even warm!
      Thanks for writing!

  8. Hidden Oaks is a nice place. I arrived at Aransas Bay RV Park today. Did you get to the Mexican food place yet. The Aransas Wildlife Refuge in on toward the northeast from you and a neat place to visit. Bring your own lunch because it is a very remote area services wise.

We stopped for lunch at Jalisco's last Friday, it was good. Thanks!
We haven't been over that way (the wildlife refuge) yet, we haven't gone in the Victoria direction yet either ... other than driving in. Still lot's to explore around here!

  9. Nice! Though I don't have the funds for commercial campsites, your write-up does make me curious about researching south Texas for winter!

    1. I've no idea of what your $$ situation is I did want to make sure that you knew most parks have a monthly rate that is a good bit cheaper than the daily or weekly rates. Sometimes workcamping is available too, it doesn't hurt to look/ask.
I use http://www.rvparkreviews.com/ to check out areas & costs.

On Padre Island Nation Seashore (by Corpus Christi) the campground was $8 ($4 if you had the old folks card). A gravel spot with a table, sunshade & grill, no hook ups but water, toilets, shower & dumping we're available.
Camping on the beach was free, once you got into Padre Is NS, there were time limits but it's a really big beach.
I'm not how the state & county rules work for the rest of the beach,
